Our pets are our best friends, so the last thing we want is to cause them any anxiety or distress. Unfortunately, moving from one place for another is a surefire way to stress your furry companion out. This is only amplified during an international move, forcing your cat or dog to sit in a dark, unknown location by themselves for hours upon end. To ensure your pet is ready for your overseas or cross-border move, follow these tips from our international moving company.

Outfit them With Trackable Items

Moving pets can be risky because the transition could make their actions unpredictable. If your furry friends can’t handle the anxiety and somehow get away, make sure there is a way to track them down. A simple way to do this is by clipping ID tags with your phone number to their collars. If you want to be extra cautious, you can microchip them so you can track where there exact location is.

Do Heavy Crate Training

Depending on where you’re going, your pet could face ten to twenty hours in a crate. Cats and dogs aren’t naturally happy inside crates; they need to learn how to be comfortable in them. To do this, simply put your pet in a crate every day and extend the time for each session. You should also feed them dinner and give them treats while inside so they can associate it with something positive.

Take them Out before Boarding

For dogs, you must take them out before they’re shipped. Allow them to relieve themselves so they don’t spend the entire trip with a full bladder or make a huge mess in their crate. Since cats can go in their litter boxes at any time, you won’t have to worry much about them.

Keep Familiar Items in Crate

Your pets love you just as much as, if not more than, you love them. Being away from you in an unknown location will completely freak them out, so make sure you keep some of your things with them during the trip. You might want to choose something you don’t mind losing because you’ll probably need to throw it out upon your arrival.
