Summer time is a busy time for moving, so many families will instead choose to move during the slower season for moving companies.  Unfortunately for families with kids in school, this can often times be difficult on the children.  Transitioning to a new community, new neighborhood and new school can be stressful on children, so it is in your best interest to do everything you can to help your child adjust more easily to their new surroundings.

Visit ahead of time.  Make time a couple of days before your child’s first day of school to visit the school building.  Your child will feel more at ease on their first day if they are familiar with and have interacted with their surroundings beforehand.

Meet teachers and school personnel.  If you have an opportunity while you are visiting, make sure to introduce your children to school personnel and their teacher.  Your child might not have much to day – and not to worry – it is just important that they have someone they know to make that transition less intimidating.

Get them involved.  Your child may be hesitant at first, but you should encourage your child to get involved in school activities – whether it be band, after school clubs or a sports team.  It is best to get involved and make friends from the get go.
